Dance Program Overview:
The Dance program focuses on studying the technique, history, and composition of Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Modern Dance. Students participate in 5 performances each year, showcasing their learning in class. Dance students will take Dance 1, Dance 2, Dance 3, and Dance 4, overview classes covering ballet, tap, jazz, modern, dance history, composition, vocabulary, and skill development. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in a Dance Composition specific course, as well as IB level 1 and IB level 2.
Audition Requirements: Dance
1. Understand that students are required to study ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance every week. African, hip-hop, and majorette dance styles are rarely studied as part of the magnet program. Have a willingness to learn, work hard, and a love for all dance. The audition will consist of a ballet barre and a jazz or modern combination taught by the teacher.
2. Students must demonstrate the following:
Proper alignment of the body.
Stretched and pointed feet.
Turn out.
Demi and grand plié.
Tendu.
Passé.
Ron de jambe.
Battement.
Grand jete.
Have a basic knowledge and proficiency in jazz and ballet.
Have some flexibility.
